Dr. Priyankar Upadhyaya

Dr Priyankar Upadhyaya holds the UNESCO Chair for Peace and serves as Professor and Director of Malaviya Centre for Peace Research at Banaras Hindu University, a premier Indian University. In 2017 he was appointed as the PRIO Global Fellow at International Peace Research Institute Oslo. He has also served as Adjunct /Visiting Professor/Senior Fellow at various universities in Europe and North America and a resources person at the UN University of Peace. He has worked as the Foundational ICCR Chair of Indian Studies at Dublin City University in 2014. He has been honoured with the Guest Scholar Award of the Woodrow Wilson Centre for International Scholars, Washington DC, Senior Fulbright Award, Faculty Research Award of the Canadian government, and the Australia-India Council Senior Fellowship. He has published in journals and books from Oxford University Press, Michigan University Press, Cambridge University Press, Sage, Ashgate and Routledge. Professor Upadhyaya has recently authored a UNESCO sponsored book,’ Long Walk of Peace towards Conflict Prevention’. Launched in Geneva recently, this volume has been hailed as a major contribution to the implementation of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022) for which UNESCO has been designated lead agency by the UN General Assembly. He has a PhD from the Jawaharlal Nehru University and possesses a very rich understanding of South Asian culture, religious, language and history.
